• This role is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the control plane and platform tooling that powers hundreds of dynamic developer sandboxes used across the company
• You will develop backend services, automate sandbox orchestration and lifecycle, productize infrastructure components, and scale Kubernetes clusters to support volatile, production-like developer workloads
• Design, build, and maintain the control plane that powers hundreds of dynamic developer sandboxes
• Develop backend tooling and services that automate sandbox creation, orchestration, and lifecycle management
• Productize and provide infrastructure as a platform including databases, caches, object storage, and queueing systems
• Scale and tune Kubernetes clusters to provide capacity for volatile workloads, including working with Karpenter, VPA, KEDA, right-sizing, pod density, bin-packing, and scheduling strategies
• Constantly track and optimize costs across compute, storage, and data transfer at large Kubernetes scale
• Own the networking setup to mimic production while enabling developer experience at scale (traffic routing, interception, ingress tuning, serving assets)
• Implement and evolve observability within sandboxes
• Partner with the Sandboxes SRE team to ensure uptime and reliability of hundreds of sandboxes daily
• Work with Deel engineering teams to improve developer experience and productize day-to-day needs into self-service platform features
• Ops workflows

Experience operating and maintaining large Kubernetes clusters (example scale: ~1000 nodes, 30k+ pods)

• 8+ years of experience in Software Engineering, Infrastructure, or Platform Engineering
• Strong backend engineering skills including API design, Postgre
• SQL, and messaging systems (Kafka/NATS)
• Practical experience with one or more of Node.js, Go, or Python
• Experience with major cloud providers (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
• Advanced Kubernetes experience, including building tools, controllers, or operators that extend Kubernetes capabilities
• Experience with standard Kubernetes tooling: networking (ingress controllers, Core
• DNS, external-dns, AWS LBC, oauth2-proxy)
• Experience with secret management solutions (Vault, External Secrets)
• Experience with cluster autoscaling and resource tuning tools (Karpenter, VPA, goldilocks, KEDA)
• Experience with storage provisioning for Kubernetes
• Experience with Helm charts and Git
• Excellent system design, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills
• Hands-on mindset and comfort working in complex, evolving environments
• PG or Zalando)
