This role is not for a traditional "Click-Ops" DBA. We are seeking an automation-first engineer. If you thrive on modernizing enterprise database stacks, writing code to eliminate manual toil, and tackling complex challenges involving large datasets to drive business results, this is the ideal job for you.

Your Role: As a Staff Database Reliability Engineer, you will serve as the Subject Matter Expert responsible for managing, optimizing, and ensuring the stability of our Oracle and cloud-native ecosystems. You will pivot our stack toward full automation, ensuring high availability, disaster recovery, and seamless scaling.

  • We’d love to chat if you have:
  • Deep Oracle Expertise: 6+ years of experience in database engineering with a primary focus on Oracle (19c or later), including strong skills in performance tuning (AWR, ASH, execution plans), security, and access control.
  • AWS Experience: 3+ years managing mission-critical Oracle databases on AWS (RDS Custom or EC2).

Mandatory Automation Skills: Proven proficiency in EITHER Infrastructure as Code using Terraform (writing custom modules, state management) OR advanced scripting/development using Python (boto3, automation frameworks). Candidates must be able to demonstrate code samples.

  • Replication Mastery: Advanced experience with Oracle GoldenGate for real-time data integration and migration.
  • GitOps Mindset: Experience applying an SDLC approach to infrastructure changes (CI/CD pipelines, GitLab/GitHub).
  • Observability: Experience with monitoring and alerting tools like Foglight, DataDog, Splunk, and CloudWatch for real-time performance monitoring and issue resolution.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Bonus Points:
  • Oracle Certification: Possession of OCP (Oracle Certified Professional) or OCM (Oracle Certified Master) credentials.
  • Modern CDC Tools: Familiarity with open-source replication tools like Debezium .
  • NoSQL Experience: Hands-on experience with DynamoDB.
  • AWS Certification: AWS Certified Database - Specialty.

IaC Certification: HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate.

Our ranges for each role and job level are based on a variety of factors including candidate experience, expertise, and geographic location and may vary from the amounts listed above. San Jose pay range $148,800 — $178,500 USD The estimated base salary range for this role is noted below for our office location in Draper, UT. Additionally, this role is eligible to participate in BILL’s bonus and equity plan. Our ranges for each role and job level are based on a variety of factors including candidate experience, expertise, and geographic location and may vary from the amounts listed above. The role is also eligible for a competitive benefits package that includes: medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, flexible spending & health savings account, paid holidays, paid time off, and other company benefits.
