- Job Type: Part-time, Temporary (Seasonal – 12 weeks + Preseason Prep)
The Summer Camp Director is responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing the day-to-day operations of our youth martial arts summer camp, as well as helping drive enrollment and parent engagement through basic marketing and communication efforts
- This role combines camp/program leadership with practical small-business marketing tasks
- Schedule: Weekdays during camp weeks, plus some pre-season planning and training hours
- Hours: Part-time; generally aligned with camper drop-off, key program blocks, and pick-up
- Reports to: Gym Owner
- Daily Operations & Program Management
- Oversee daily camp operations, including opening and closing procedures
- Implement and manage the daily schedule (martial arts sessions, games, activities, snacks/lunch, and breaks)
Coordinate with coaching staff (jiu jitsu, MMA, wrestling, judo, boxing, muay thai, etc.) to integrate training safely into the camp day
- Ensure smooth transitions between activities and that the day runs on time
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment in all camp areas
- Camper & Parent Experience
- Be the primary point of contact for parents and guardians during camp
- Manage check-in/check-out, including sign-in/sign-out, late arrivals, and early pick-ups
- Communicate clearly and professionally about schedules, expectations, behavior issues, incidents, and updates
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and encouraging atmosphere for all campers
- Address behavior issues using age-appropriate strategies and document when needed
- Staff Leadership & Coordination
- Provide on-site leadership for camp counselors, assistant coaches, and junior staff
- Assist with or lead camp-specific staff training on routines, expectations, and safety
- Create and manage staff schedules, rotations, and coverage to maintain safe ratios
- Support staff with coaching, feedback, and clear communication throughout the season
- Safety, Risk Management & Compliance
- Enforce all gym and camp safety protocols and community standards
- Monitor camper-to-staff ratios and ensure constant supervision
- Respond to and document incidents, injuries, and behavior issues according to gym procedures
- Maintain accurate records, including attendance, incident/accident reports, and important medical/allergy notes
- Ensure required waivers and forms are completed and properly stored
- Marketing, Enrollment & Communication
- Collaborate with the owner to help drive camp enrollment and retention
- Assist with basic marketing tasks, such as:
- Drafting and sending parent emails or text updates about camp weeks, themes, and reminders
- Providing content ideas, photos (within policy), and highlights for social media
- Helping write or review camp information for the website, flyers, and handouts
- Track inquiries and follow up with interested families in a timely, professional manner
- Collect feedback and testimonials from parents to improve and promote future camps
- Planning, Administration & Reporting
- Help plan weekly themes, special activities, and simple events (e.g., end-of-week demos or showcase days)
- Track enrollment, manage rosters, and help with group assignments based on age and experience
- Provide regular updates to the owner on camp operations, challenges, and successes
