• The Data Engineer I is a key technical resource for Alterman’s data pipelines and helps contextualize and provide easy access to data for the entire organization
• The Data Engineer I designs, builds, and deploys data solutions that capture, explore, transform, and utilize data to support and drive business initiatives
• Constructs new data pipelines and optimizes existing ones to ensure resiliency and scalability
• Designs data models for optimized reporting
• Creates complex views specific for various operations groups
• Creates Extract, Load, Transform (ELT) jobs from various data sources
• Assists data team with data initiatives and automation needs
• Maintains and enforces best practices with regards to data source control and queries
• Contributes to data catalogs and dictionaries
• Tests and debugs ELT functions

Performs other duties as assigned

• 2 years of related experience engineering and operationalizing data pipelines within a cloud environment required
• 2 years of related experience with ELT and Data Warehousing required
• Experience with Azure DevOps and Snowflake required
• Experience with data engineering best practices for development required, including query optimization, version control, code reviews and documentation
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to translate the stories found in the data
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, or other related software
• Proficient in SQL and/or Python
• Familiarity with data quality, lineage, and cataloging practices
• Awareness of data governance and security (RBAC/roles, object tags, masking, RAPS)
• Able to learn corporate processes, standards, and technologies
• Able to work adaptively and collaboratively
• Able to cross-train with other system owners and administrators to ensure adequate coverage across platforms
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
